2022 Beginning Teachers Conference has ended
WELCOME TO THE 2022 BEGINNING TEACHERS’ CONFERENCE!

Teachers new to the profession are invited to attend the 2022 Beginning Teachers’ Conference, September 23–24, Fantasyland Hotel, Edmonton. There is no registration fee. Space is limited; apply early.

School principals, school jurisdictions and local associations work together to provide substitute teacher coverage as per the collective agreement to facilitate the attendance of beginning teachers at the conference. Substitute teacher coverage must be organized and approved in advance. Please ensure you meet with your school principal to discuss release time and obtain the appropriate absence code to attend this conference. 

Teachers in charter, federal and private schools must be associate members of the Association to be eligible to attend the Beginning Teachers Conference.

A block of guest rooms have been reserved at the Fantasyland Hotel for conference delegates. Rooms must be booked prior to September 2. Please reference the ATA Beginning Teachers Conference or provide the group code# 5917866 when booking your accommodations.

L'enseignement de la lecture est un phéomène complexe et en immersion nous avons le double défi de le faire dans une langue que nos élèves ne maîtrisent pas encore. Venez apprendre comment structurer votre enseignement pour qu'il soit efficace et stimulant dans un milieu immersif. Dans cet atelier vous aurez l'occasion d'apprendre différentes stratégies basées sur des données probantes pour faciliter l'apprentissage de la lecture chez le jeune apprenant. Des exemples vidéos viendront appuyer comment mettre tout cela en place dans votre salle de classe. Afin de simplifier votre vie, des ressources et des activités que vous pourrez utiliser avec vos élèves dès votre retour en classe vous seront partagées.

Teaching reading is a complex phenomenon and in immersion we have the double challenge of doing it in a language that our students have not mastered yet. Come learn how to structure your teaching so that it is effective and stimulating in an immersion environment. In this workshop, you will learn different strategies based on evidence to facilitate the learning of reading in the young learner. Video examples will support how to implement these strategies in your classroom. Resources and activities that you can use with your students as soon as you return to class will be shared with you to make your life easier.
